Dr. Douglas Adamóski Meira
My previous background spans evolution and gene expression regulation in eukaryotes, with a special focus on mitochondrial-located proteins encoded by the nuclear genome and their impact on organelle function and morphology. This led me to join the Stainier lab in May 2024 to investigate how transcriptional adaptation operates on such genes and influences mitochondrial-related phenotypes.Ultimately, the most intriguing question is whether evolution has written an underlying code into the genome of living species related to genetic compensation—one that can be read, interpreted, and potentially rewired for the benefit of humankind.
