flow cytometry

Flow Cytometry Service Group

The facility provides a centralized flow cytometry and cell sorting service to researchers and collaborators at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research. We provide serivce to a wide range of applications that include samples from murine tissues, zebrafish, and various cell lines for gene expression studies, cell cycle analysis and multi-colour phenotyping.

Cell Sorters

Bigfoot

Bigfoot is a high end cell sorter equipped with 5 lasers (340nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 640nm)  and 55 detectors which allows for both conventional or spectral cell sorting. It is a jet-in-air sorter that can sort straight down or multi stream into 96 well or 384 well plate, simultaneous 6-way bulk sorting into different sized collection tubes, or sorting into 10x Genomics plate.

Aria III

Aria III cell sorter is a high end cell sorter equipped with 4-lasers (405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm)  and 12 fluorescence emission channels.
It is a cuvette based sorter that can sort upto 4 populations at the same time, and into a 96-well or 384-well plate.

BioSorter

The BioSorter is a large particle sorter equipped with 3 lasers ( 405nm, 488nm, and 561 nm)  and comes with different flow cell sizes of 250mM, 500mM, and 1000mM. This allows for sorting a range of large sized entities e.g. cardiomyocytes, mouse pancreatic islets, adipocytes or whole organisms such as C.elegans, and zebrafish larvae.

S3e

The S3e is a compact sorter that is equipped with 2 lasers (488nm, and 561 nm) and 4 fluorescence emission channels. It can sort 2-way into different sized collection tubes.

MACS-Classic sorter

This magnetic bead based sorter is used for the pre-enrichment of rare populations.

Analyzers

LSR Fortessa

The LSR Fortessa - SORP is equipped with 5 lasers ( 355nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 640nm) and 18 fluorescence emission channels. All analysis experiments from cell cycle analysis to multiparametric phenotyping are performed on this instrument.
